Zimbabwe President Emerson Mangagawa has appointed a new chief of the army before the planned protests on Monday, summoned by a group of war veterans who want to force the president to resign.

Former Major General, Emmanuel Matatu, has an immediate effect.

President Mangagawa has encountered calls from his former supporters to withdraw, citing mismanagement and corruption.

Earlier this week, Mnangagwa sharply withdrew from his chief of the army, Gen Anselem Sanyatwe, appointing him a minister of sports, arts and culture.

Matatu is reported, at the age of 72, is a veteran of the Liberation War of the 70s, which is still a huge factor in Zimbabwe’s policy.

He trained in Zambia as a member of the Army of the People’s Republic of Zimbabwe (Zipra), one of the two rival guerrilla forces that fought with the rule of the white minority in the then Rhodesia.

Zipra was the armed wing of a clog – led by Joshua Nkomo – unlike Zanko’s party to Robert Mugabe and Emerson Manngawa. After independence, the two groups merged to form Zanu-PF, which has since been in power.

Matatu is regarded as a loyalist for the current leader of the Zimbabwe defense forces (ZDF), Philip Valerio Sibanda, also a former veteran of Zipra.

It is probably a gene Sibanda to consolidate its control over the army, which meets President Manngwawa and make him feel more fed up because he trusts the ZDF commander.

Previously, ZDF was led by the man who is now Vice President Constantino Chivega.

The phase of war veterans calling for protests on Monday have called on Chivega to take over the presidency.

According to the State newspaper Chronicle, Matatu’s promotion is part of the continued efforts to strengthen the leadership of the country’s defense forces.

Due to his relentless reputation, Emerson Manngavagh It passes through the nickname “Crocodile”S

He became president in 2017 after a coup against longtime leader Robert Mugabe and is currently serving his second and last term, which expires in 2028.

The problem began to boil during mythical washing of Zanu-PF last year after reports that Mnangagwa wanted to extend its stay.

Despite the recent confidence from Mnangagwa that he intends to withdraw in three years, many remain unconventional.

Criticism of his party leadership and accusations that he intends to cling to power has caused memories from the lead to the coup, who has taken down Mugabe.

Although it is unclear how much public support veterans have for their planned protests, the Security Minister warned Zimbabwee to participate in demonstrations.

Police have announced a four -day ban around the capital on wearing weapons or any instruments that can be used to cause violence.
